Welsh Association of Motor Clubs

Issue Number 3: April / May 2008

This issue is again coming out later than planned – still too many things to do for one pair of ageing hands. This is beginning to read like my school reports “could do better” – ho hum:

WAMC Website:

The new website is being updated very quickly and thanks are due to John Upstone for that. It is now operating within its own hosting space, but it was necessary to have the website off-line for a short time to enable that change to take place. I haven’t heard of any problems being experienced during that time.

Don’t forget, let John Upstone know of any problems or suggestions for layout changes or additions.

Events/Championships:

I’m pleased to say that there has been an increase in the competitor registrations for the WAMC Championships, this year, despite the current financial difficulties.

As a result of recent personal experiences, I would like to remind competitors to ensure that they are fully aware of the regulations that apply to the championships that they have entered. If there are any issues with them, let the Championship Secretary know of your views, in a polite and calm manner, so that they can be looked at for the following year. The Regulations are set at the

Championship Meeting, usually held in August or September each year.

Please remember that these people are doing the job on a voluntary basis and that they are trying to appease a lot of people who, invariably, have differing viewpoints, so it can’t be guaranteed that a decision will go the way that you would like.

Regional Meeting:

The Go Motorsport initiative will be launched on 11th June 2008. I’ve got a copy of the Powerpoint presentation, explaining this, which I will show at the next main meeting, time permitting.
Race Elite have been given a simulator, free of charge and it is hoped that this will be also available to Rally Elite members in the near future.
Miles Booker has been appointed as the MSA Customer Services/IT Communications person.
Raising the average speed for stage rallies was discussed, in the light of the difficulties associated with artificial chicanes, but it is unlikely to happen due to the potential insurance issues. It will be discussed at the next Rallies Committee meeting.
A list of the WAMC Regional Rallies Timekeepers is needed by the 9th June.
The date of the next meeting is 20th August 2008, so let me know (Geoff Field – This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if you have any issues to raise.

Centre Meetings:
Northern Centre -  8th July.
Southern Centre – 1st July.

Main Meetings:
July 13th, October 26th, January 4th 2009.

The October meeting will see the attendance of Alan Gow- MSA Chairman, Graham Stoker – MSC Chairman and Colin Hilton – Chief Executive. This is your opportunity to put any questions/issues that you might have, to some senior officials and I hope that you will do your best to support this particular meeting. It would be a shame for these busy people to come to a meeting where only a few Clubs are represented.

Annual Returns:
Sorry to keep on about this but please ensure that you complete these as soon as you have changes to the Officials of your Club. Check the website for your Club’s, or any Club where you know the Officials there, for the recorded information and let me know of any errors. I know that there are some, as I’m getting the odd email bounced back.

It is vital that member Clubs are kept informed of everything that the WAMC is doing, but that cannot be done if the contact information isn’t up to date.

Mobile phone numbers and email addresses seem to be the biggest problem, as some people change these on a regular basis, to take advantage of the best deals available.
